GB 43: Grateful Badass Podcast Guest, Psychiatrist Dr. Alison Barnes Baker
The subject of Mental Health and Mental Illness has been heavily on my mind since the unfortunate suicide deaths of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain. With that, I wanted to invite someone on the podcast who could speak on the matter from their professional background and years of sound experience. Gratefully, I didn’t have to search too far. Today, I bring to you a conversation with my classmate and friend, Psychiatrist Dr. Alison Barnes Baker.
Alison is a native of Memphis, Tennessee and a graduate of Memphis Central (The High School), a graduate of Spelman College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. A graduate of Washington University School of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine and a graduate of the University of Maryland with a Master of Science in Epidemiology. Alison completed her residence training in Preventive Medicine and Psychiatry at the University of Maryland in Baltimore.
She currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband and three children.
Whew! What an impressive, and I must add, Badass educational and professional background.
Listen in as Alison talks and shares with me over a number of topics including; mental health and wellness, therapy and the taboo of seeking therapy within the black community, depression and suicide, parenting and a number of topics which made for an extremely lively and informative conversation. I learned so much from our talk and I hope you do too.

**Many thanks Dr. Baker for taking time and sharing with the Grateful Badass Podcast, audience and platform.**
Alison, I appreciate you and all of the wonderful work that you are doing and for your commitment to the Mental Health community. All the best to you and everything that you seek to do.
