A wonderful time was had at the Well-Read Black Girl’s first inaugural book festival in Brooklyn. Well- Read Black Girl is an online book community which focuses on women authors and writers of color. Estatic, I was, to both hear about the community and attend this small piece of literary heaven.
I was inspired by all of the panelists and fellow attendees where one piece of information from Author and Attorney, Natashia Deon touched me in a profound and unexpected way. Write and complete your book project. The esteemed panelist shown above included: Jacqueline Woodson, Tiphanie Yanique, Bernice McFadden and LaShonda Barnett. All presented a wonderful array of advice through their own personal experiences and stories. Black girl magic personified.
I receive those words from Natashia Deon and will make good on her advice.
Above, a couple of photos from the event and a huge shout to WRBG Founder, Glory Edim for following her vision and creating this most necessary literary community for women of color.
Salute.
