My daughter, I call her JSparkle or sometimes, “the teenager” or “my youngest”. She snapped this photo while we were in the subway one morning on the way to church. I absolutely love snapshots. Real life, real moments are revealed. That is, without all of the primping and prepping that we as individuals seem to naturally do.

Snapshots are divine and remind me of how I might have felt or what was going on in my head during a particular point in time.

In this particular photo, I can remember I feeling of simple joy of being with my teenage daughter, who just recently celebrated her fourteen birthday, I might add. There’s a feeling of peace in this photo as we were headed to worship with fellow church members and friends. A feeling of gratefulness, for having access and opportunity to the things which we so often take for granted. Blessings, such as, good health, a home, food in the fridge and the ability to stand for what we believe. Privileges and opportunities that others would love to have access to.

I have so much to be grateful for.

I wanted to reflect for a moment because although, my life is far from perfect, there is always something to be grateful for. Especially, the small, everyday unspectacular things.

Throughout all of life’s glorious highs and sweeping lows, there is always something wonderful to be grateful for.

I will always adore and celebrate moments as the one in this photo. Just as my oldest child, soon my youngest will leave our home go out in the world, and make her own way. For this reason alone, I will cherish moments as this.
