GB 32: Bobby White, Memphis Executive, speaks on MLK50
This past Wednesday marked the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
In honor of Dr. King and MLK50, I wanted to dedicate space on the Grateful Badass platform for the occasion. With that, I am entirely grateful to have my friend and classmate on the Grateful Badass Podcast for this week. Bobby White is so Memphis and has much to share on MLK50.
Bobby represents the city quite well in the many capacities of which he serves and has served. From School District Executive to former Chief of Staff to the Mayor’s Office to District Director for the U.S. House of Representatives under Rep. Harold Ford, Jr. When thinking on who I should speak with on the ground and in the mist of MLK50 in Memphis, one who could share their own personal and unique perspective, none other than, Bobby White came to mind.
Listen in as two fellow Memphians share a conversation regarding events happening in commemoration of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Memphis, Tennessee which occurred exactly fifty years ago on Wednesday, April 4th. Bobby speaks about the many notable guests, activists and celebrities visiting and participating in events around the city. His personal relationships, stories and ties with so many people on the front lines during the times leading up to Dr. King’s death. His personal knowledge regarding the creation of the iconic ” I Am A Man” slogan; as well as, his relationships with friends from the sanitation workers movement, the very cause which brought Dr. King to Memphis before his death.
Where do we go from here?
Our conversation warmed my heart and filled me with inspiration. Encouraged me to continue my platform and my manner of service to my community. I hope listening, does the same for you. More importantly, I hope that it moves you to take a stand to continue the life, legacy and work of Dr. King.
