Grateful for “Me Time” which often translates into a “Grateful and Grown” moment for me. Oh yes.
*** Because I’m so Grateful and Grown, there’s no current podcast episode for you on today. Catch up on a previous episode? Maybe, episode #11 Reclaiming Self: Self Love and Self Care? Click here. ***
While JSparkle, the teenager is enjoying time with her fellow scouts, time away from the concrete jungle to experience an abundance of delightful, greenery and space, I get to enjoy just about everything that I love WITHOUT explanation or apology.
This weekend… Grateful Badass is Grateful and Grown. HA!
When I’m home alone for a number of days, then and only then is my true status crystal clear to me. I am NOT my own woman. Gratefully, every now and then, I get to be Grateful and Grown. When that happens, hmmmmm…
* I don’t have to share my lounging space
* I don’t have to share my Pine Nut hummus dip. Yep, the whole container is all mine
* I can watch whichever movie or documentary I choose without debate
* I can chill with a glass of wine without a call or text asking “Birth Giver, where are you?” (Birth Giver happens to be the cellular contact name that the teenager has so affectionately blessed me with)
* I can write this blog post without a mirage of questions regarding
* I can go out for a night on the town and not worry about the clock, getting home timely or at all! Just being grateful and grown. (Que? …I’m setting a good example of timing/ house rules for the teenager)
* Wear what I want without unsolicited opinions blurted or shared
And there it is, I realize and acknowledge that as a Mom, and in my case, a single parent, I am NOT my own woman. Yet, I’m okay with this. My children are my heartbeats. I love them dearly and give freely of myself to their growth and development into socially conscious, kind and loving, intellectual beings. Most importantly, I know that time flies. Let me restate, time flies! JSparkle is currently fourteen and as I have seen firsthand with my First Born Love, who crossed over to 23 years young on last month, I know that children grow like sunflowers- tall, fast and beautiful. Soon, JSparkle will be off to college with absolutely NO Time for her beautiful, Birth Giver. It’ll happen. Just as sure as I encourage her to sparkle and shine daily without apology. It’ll happen.
For now, unless she’s off Girl Scouting or spending time with her Daddy- O (his assigned lingo), I’ll share ALL of my hummus and watch EVERY episode of Netflix’s Stranger Things or patiently listen to her RAVE about her world of middle school society, politics and culture. Afterall, I’ll get to my books, blogging, podcasting and my beloved documentaries in time. Why? Because family is everything.
But, until that bus brings her back to the city, this Grateful and Grown Woman will continue to enjoy “my time” with a glass of wine, jazz playing in the background, in peace.
Blessings,
~ Grateful Badass aka Birth Giver of JSparkle
