I’ve found out again and again. Once you make up your mind to do something. Anything of substance, large or small. Adversity will be just around the corner.
It shows up in the form of the loss of a job or loved one, an unexpected negative turn of events. Certain to trip you up. Cause you to lose your way. Adversity is present in our everyday lives yet, it loves to battle progression. It watches and patiently waits. Ready and ever willing to test you at your word. That which you said you would do. The very moment you set foot in that direction towards an effort to make it happen.
Oh but when you sit back and talk. Say less! Adversity pays no mind to talkers. No mind at all.
Start doing something in pursuit of your dream. And you wake the giant of adversity.
“Hmmmm. Did someone ring?” Quickly jumping. Ready for the task at hand. To intimidate you. To get you back where you started. Back to where you were of no threat in changing local government, neighborhood schools and your community in a positive and meaningful way.
You on fire with forward motion is a threat! A threat to adversity’s friends complacency and contentment. No one ever conquered any great thing lounging with contentment. Chatting about being a catalyst for change.
Adversity wants to stop you in your tracks, right before you get start. And then again and again until you tire. Before momentum begins. “Go back to sleep adversity wails”. Let me see if I can sit you down. Back before your television series and your idleness.
Intent on going through with your plan? Adversity wants to see what you’re made of. Conjures up another issue that’s sure to unnerve you back to your corner. Back to your secure, comfortable happy place.
Are you ready to change the world? Start that business venture? Write that book?
When you make up your mind to move ahead. Be ready. Stay ready for obstacles and distractions. An unexpected maneuver to block your path.
Stay the course.
Be determined. Take note of the ruse. Wake up and be persistent. Get knocked down. Get back up for the umpteenth time. Show adversity just what the hell you’re made of.
