Attorney Asha Smith’s bio….
In addition to her Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School, Asha Smith holds two Master Degrees from The New School (Media Studies and Teaching). A practicing attorney, Asha is a former Public Defender for the Legal Aid Society where she represented some of New York City’s most vulnerable populations in misdemeanor and serious felony cases. She has appeared as an on-air expert regarding the criminal justice system and recently appeared on-air on the Law and Crime Network, providing trial commentary for the People v. Markeith Lloyd, the Florida man who killed his pregnant ex-partner and their unborn child, and who was subsequently charged with the murder of a police officer during the ensuing manhunt.
Asha is a long-standing member of both the Metropolitan Black Bar Association (MBBA) and the New York County Lawyers’ Association (NYCLA). She sits on the Board of Directors of both bar associations. Additionally, Asha chairs NYCLA’s Criminal Justice Section and serves as Co-Chair of MBBA’s Public Policy and Advocacy Committee. Asha is also a Fellow of the New York State Bar Foundation.
Asha is admitted to practice in the State of New York, the Southern District of New York, and the United States Supreme Court.
Outside of law, Asha’s passion is entertainment. While not in court, Asha is often contributing to various film and television projects in the capacities of Entertainment Law Counsel, Director, Producer, and even as a professional Make-Up Artist.
