Chuk’s bio…
Can straight ahead jazz, today’s so-called smooth jazz and world music inspire a new form of healing music? An instrumental music which transcends the age of its fans and stimulates them to move their bodies instead of just listening to it? A music that motivates listeners to be themselves, expose their hearts and surrender to their own creativity? It can.
Chuk Fowler is the leader of Higher Energy, a dynamic jazz orchestra whose performances inspire standing ovations from their audiences. Distinguished as high energy, not loud energy, innovative music artist, Chuk Fowler, creates a new dynamic sound that combines the musical influences noted below with bits and pieces of real life experiences.
Prolific as a youth, Chuk followed the cool jazz scene at many of Harlem’s landmark establishments like the Apollo Theater, Small’s Paradise, the Cotton Club and Minton’s Playhouse. In these venues he met and played with music icons we recognize today, such as Miles Davis, Wynton Kelly, Kenny Dorham , Hank Mobley, Billy Higgins and Wilbur Ware.
To date, his professional career spans over four decades. He toured extensively in France, England, Spain, Germany, Italy, Japan and North America and accompanied such legendary artists as Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Norman Conners, Teruo Nakamura, Louis Nash, Harry “Sweets” Edison, and Esther Phillips, to name a few.
Now thrust into an ever evolving music scene, Chuk has unearthed a spiritual reservoir – a signature style that musically bridges twenty-somethings and people their grandparents age. A world of cool groove.
Audiences experience his performances as an eclectic mix of African, Native American, Latin, Caribbean, and Asian harmonics and rhythms. His music represents the core of “swing” jazz which infuses the musical expressions of indigenous people from around the world. In eleven compositions comprising his latest CD, entitled , “It Feels Good To Feel Good”, you hear a tasty musical gumbo that’s samba, swing, and straight ahead all at once.
Chuk Fowler’s path of creative self-renewal winds throughout his music. And his message is a simple one: “When I play, I play in terms of a universal note. I intend to heal and create harmony among my audiences through my music.”
