It was a lovely night out at the movies.
As a new empty nester, I decided the best way to transition into this new space and season for me as a single, divorced Mom was to embrace the newness of it all and go with the flow…. all while taking our supporters along with. Each week, I will share what went on during the previous week. The goal is for me to ensure I get out of the apartment, out from under work and LIVE.
This past week, my Howard University freshman called on Saturday morning. Yes, she called her Mom! I digress. She called to inform me of the nationwide $3 movie day. That’s all that I needed to hear. I quickly planned an afternoon to check out Jordan Peele’s new thriller, Nope. Just so you know, I’m a huge fan of Peele and wanted to support but hadn’t made time for it. This was my chance and a perfect opener to #EmptyNesterSeries. Woot.
As for the movie, I had heard plenty of talk from people who didn’t get or like the movie. This is Jordan Peele people. He will not spoon-feed his viewers and there will always, always be a lesson to learn. Messages to take heed upon. I enjoyed the movie. I initially thought it moved a bit slowly but picked up in time. No spoilers here. Keke Palmer was badass and, of course, Daniel Kayluuya was outstanding. I love his facial expressions and total demeanor as an actor. Nope, was thought provoking as expected and is a must see. Yep, I said it. A must see!
